Using Recessed Shower Lighting in Your Bathroom

Lighting is one of the best ways to create mood areas in your home. Each room has to have general and accent lighting that will set the mood for work and play and every room will be distinctive in that aspect.

Bathrooms are one place where you can set several levels of lighting to accentuate features of a well designed bathroom. After all it’s the first room you enter in the morning and the last room you visit before you sleep, but most people seem to totally ignore this area. You will need sharp lighting for makeup mirror, sinks, and showers and recessed shower lighting in the shower and Jacuzzi areas.

It can be a little difficult to find the best recessed shower lighting fixtures as there are so many varieties present in the market but here are a few things you can keep in mind. Choose recessed shower lighting with higher wattage in areas with higher ceilings especially those that are higher than 8 feet. Space out the lights a half the ceiling light. That means if you have an eight feet ceiling; you need to space out your ceiling fixtures about four feet from each other. Crisp white recessed shower lighting is the best to check skin tones when you have a bath. Halogens are the best and energy efficient but you can also choose to use LEDs if you want to. Most homeowners prefer to use a dedicated fixture for the shower stall area but you can also choose to use a single light outside the shower stall. If you have large bathrooms then do think about using miniature chandeliers to brighten up the room. Another good idea is to use glass shields on the lighting that you have selected for your bathrooms. Plastic tends to yellow very fast in the humid environment of the bathroom. If you have the expertise then you can go ahead and install track and fluorescent lighting for general use in the bathroom around the recessed shower lighting areas.

One really great version of low voltage recessed shower lighting was this frosted shower glass domes. These were specially manufactured with a glass diffuser and a special rubber gasket that allowed the underlying moisture from the shower stall to escape. The models that we reviewed had six different finishes and could be used with PAR Halogen lamps for sharp lighting and MR16 low voltage halogen lighting for a more diffuse appearance. The shower recessed trims are great for use with damp areas like bathrooms and they are plastic to meet with housing codes. But metal trims are also available which you can paint to match your ceiling color. The paint also protects from damp and eliminates air leaks.
